#powerball Navy Veteran Wins $50,000 Playing Powerball in Iowa

March 14th, 2017

A Navy veteran visiting his friend in Iowa won $50,000 playing Powerball, according to the Iowa Lottery.

Corey Hecht of St. Could, Minn. matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball in the March 8 drawing.

Hecht, 39, bought his winning ticket from the Casey's at 1510 Sunset Drive in Norwalk. He returned to the store to have his ticket verified after he checked it online.

"I'm like, 'Wow! I better check this out,' and I'm thinking maybe $20 or something," Hecht told Iowa Lottery employees when he claimed his prize. "Then the lady at the gas station is like, 'Do you know you won $50,000?'"

Hecht is currently enrolled in school to advance his career in construction management.

He told the Iowa Lottery he doesn't have a plan for his winnings yet.
