#powerball North Carolina man says Powerball win got his heart racing '100 miles an hour'

September 6th, 2017

RALEIGH - Timothy Bolick of Reidsville is wrapping up one of the biggest weeks of his life with a $200,000 Powerball win.

"I'm still pinching myself," Bolick said. "I can't believe this is all happening."

Within the same week, the recently retired machine repairman turned 62, won $200,000 in the Aug. 23 Powerball drawing, and celebrated the birth of his grandson.

Bolick's good fortune started when he stopped by Week's Grocery on Barnes Street in Reidsville to get his Powerball tickets.

"I get two tickets every week," Bolick said. "I get one for Wednesday and one for Saturday. I get a Quick Pick and add a Power Play."

Bolick didn't check his tickets until he was talking with his son the day after his birthday.

"My son asked if I had heard about the winning ticket that was sold at Week's Grocery," Bolick said. "I figured I should probably go check them since that's where I bought them from." When Bolick saw that he matched four white balls and the Powerball he went back to the store.

"I told them that I might have a big winner," Bolick said. "The clerk gave me a high five and then scanned the ticket. Sure enough, the bells and whistles started going off. My heart started beating 100 miles an hour and I thought, 'Oh my God, this can't be happening.'"

Bolick said he wasn't able to sleep that night, or the next, but that was partly because his grandson was born.

He finally claimed the prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholdings, he took home $139,002. He plans to save most of the money for retirement, but also plans to take his family on a beach trip.
