#powerball Kentucky Man Claims $50,000 Powerball Prize in Indiana

January 4th, 2017

Gary Cook of Shepherdsville, Kentucky won $50,000 in Indiana on Dec. 24.

Gary, who is originally from Muncie, bought Powerball tickets while visiting family for Christmas. Although he only plays the lottery once or twice per year, he said the word "ticket" popped into his head while waiting to pay at Village Pantry. So, he bought $20 worth of Powerball on a whim. Days later, his wife found the ticket and checked the numbers, discovering his $50,000 win. She called Gary's phone 20 times before he answered.

Although Gary said there are plenty of things he wants, there's nothing he truly needs. As a result, he plans to use the money to help others.
