The luck of the horseshoe was certainly with Joseph Yanish, a professional farrier from Litchfield, when he won $1 million playing Powerball on May 14.
Yanish won the $1 million prize on an "impulse purchase" he made at Casey's General Store, 6515 County Road 136, in St. Cloud. "I just had an extra couple of bucks and decided to buy two tickets at the last minute," he said.
Yanish discovered his win on May 16 after reading online that Casey's General Store in St. Cloud sold a $1 million winning ticket. "I was freaking out," he recalled. "My wife [Erin] thought someone had died!" But after he showed her the ticket, Erin quickly realized it was very good news.
Erin said she was much more even-keeled about the win. "We are quite content as is," she said. "We are going to go on living life the way we have," except with one major exception-being debt free.
The couple plan to pay off their debts, including their mortgage. They also plan to tithe a portion of their prize and do some traveling, including a trip to Walt Disney World next year.
Yanish, along with his wife and family, arrived at Lottery headquarters in Roseville on June 2 to claim the prize.
