A Pinckney man felt "numb" after checking his Powerball ticket and learning he had won $1 million.
Jeff Sheathelm, 52, matched the five white balls drawn in the Jan. 9 Powerball drawing to win a $1 million prize. He bought his winning ticket at the Pilot Travel Center, located at 750 Baker Road in Dexter, Michigan.
"I was at home working when I saw on Facebook a winning ticket had been sold at the Pilot Travel Center in Dexter," said Sheathelm. "When I saw I had matched five numbers I went numb."
"I took a picture of the ticket and sent it to my girlfriend and asked her to call me so I could verify I was seeing everything right."
When Sheathelm's girlfriend confirmed he was a big winner, the excitement started to set in.
"It was just me and the cat at home, so I didn't have anyone to celebrate with but I sure was excited," said Sheathelm.
Sheathelm visited Lottery headquarters today to claim the $1 million prize. With his winnings, Sheathelm plans to start college funds for his children, buy a new boat, take a hunting trip out West, and invest the remainder.
"I love my job and going to work every day so I'll keep working for a while, but it's nice to know I have a more comfortable retirement to look forward to," Sheathelm said.
