A southern Iowa man was just one number away from winning a record-breaking Powerball jackpot last week and ended up winning a $100,000 prize.
Pason Hermsen of Albia matched four white balls and the Powerball in the Jan. 13 drawing to win a $50,000 prize, but since he added the Power Play option to his purchase for an extra $1 his prize doubled to $100,000.
Hermsen purchased his winning ticket at BW Gas & Convenience, 2101 Antique City Drive in Walnut. He said he stopped there Jan. 13 to buy a ticket on his way to Nebraska. He claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's headquarters in Clive.
