January 15th, 2016

One lucky Gwinnett County man has won a $1 million prize from Saturday's Powerball drawing. Dennis Taimanglo of Lawrenceville matched the first five numbers from the Jan. 9 drawing, winning a $1 million prize.

He claimed his prize Monday afternoon at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

The lucky Quik Pik ticket was purchased Friday evening at Simonton Shell, located at 920 New Hope Road in Lawrenceville.

Taimanglo, 38, discovered his windfall after receiving a screenshot of the Powerball results on his cellphone.

"I was shocked. I didn't believe it," he said. "I read the numbers out, then I started laughing."

Taimanglo, who works in retail, is planning for his future. He and his fiancé, Lani, have one teenage son.

"It's becoming a reality now," he said. "I'll be paying bills off and getting caught up with life."
