Kelly Branscum of Monticello claimed a $50,000 Powerball ticket yesterday at
lottery headquarters. He'd purchased the winning ticket for the November 11, 2015 Powerball drawing at Shell 90 in Monticello. It wasn't until Friday, the 13th when Kelly went back to the store that he'd found out he'd won. After seeing him buying the ticket on surveillance video, the store owner jokingly asked him to hand over his ticket to have it scanned. Sure enough, he'd matched four of the white ball numbers and the Powerball to win. "I didn't know what to do. I froze," he told lottery officials.
Kelly walked out of lottery headquarters with a check for $34,500 after taxes. He would like to add a porch onto his home and buy farm equipment with the winnings.
