October 25th, 2015

A Colorado woman has pinched a plentiful prize from the Georgia Lottery during a recent visit to the Peach State.

Judith Newcomb of Golden, Colo., matched the first five winning numbers from the Aug. 29 Powerball drawing, winning a $1 million prize.

The lucky winner claimed her prize Oct. 9 at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

"I'm filled with thankfulness, gratefulness," said Newcomb, 69. "I'm extremely grateful."

Although she has no immediate plans for her winnings, Newcomb recalled the moment she realized that she'd won, describing it as "special."

"I was in total disbelief," she said. "Marty, my husband, is the one who checked my ticket."

On the day she purchased her ticket, Newcomb declared that she'd win the lottery.

"I bought the ticket and put it in my billfold," she recalled.

Newcomb was in Georgia visiting her 96-year-old mother when she purchased her Powerball ticket.

Swifti Serve, 2002 Alabama Ave. S. in Bremen, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
