On January 10, John Hamilton had an overwhelming feeling to purchase Kansas Lottery tickets for that night's jackpot drawings. Since his wife Rena works at a local convenience store, Hamilton reminded her to buy tickets when she got off work. The Aurora residents are glad they listened to John's "feeling" when they discovered they had matched four of the first five Powerball numbers, plus the Powerball number to win a $10,000 cash prize!
"The most we've ever won before this was $100 on a scratch ticket," said Rena. "When we buy tickets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, we always get the Fast 5 sampler. The Fast 5 is a great way to get a variety of games all at the same time." The Kansas Lottery's Fast 5 sampler includes one ticket of the following games: Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto, Super Kansas Cash and 2by2.
"We didn't know we had won until I checked our tickets Tuesday evening," said Rena. "My favorite number is 13 and I found out on January 13 we had won $10,000. It was definitely a lucky day for me. I even won $75 on a $20 scratch ticket I bought earlier that day."
After realizing their Powerball ticket was worth $10,000, Rena called John at work and told him she was stopping by and he was to meet her in the parking lot.
"I've had several deaths in my family recently, so when she called I thought something bad must have happened," said John. "When she showed me the ticket, I was very surprised. Let me tell you, I'll take this kind of good news any day!"
The Hamiltons, who have been married 19 years, plan to use part of their winnings to visit one of Rena's brothers in Maryland. Rena purchased the Fast 5 sampler at Short Stop 4, located at 1020 Lincoln St. in Concordia.
