An Internet site played a big role in helping a Georgia Lottery Powerball winner to come forward in claiming her prize. Janon Frei of Jasper matched the first five winning numbers from the Sept. 17 Powerball drawing, winning a $2 million prize.
Frei selected the Power Play option for an additional $1 to increase her non-jackpot winnings.
She claimed her winnings Tuesday evening at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.
While scrolling through her news feed on Facebook, Frei saw that KnowPickens.com had written a story about the unclaimed Powerball ticket that was purchased locally.
"I said to myself, 'Those numbers look familiar,' " she recalled. "I was at a dog show and was going to check later."
Frei, 50, soon changed her mind and checked her Quik Pik ticket.
"I was shaking. I was really excited," she said. "I stayed at the dog show and showed all weekend."
A registered nurse, Frei is a dog lover who has exhibited Jack Russell Terriers at various conformation dog shows for 14 years.
With three children, the lucky winner intends to pay off her home mortgage and car note.
West End Grocery, 2881 Jerusalem Church Road in Jasper, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
