"Illinois has always been lucky for me!" Ron Bryant said when he presented his winning Powerball ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Fairview Heights. The Florissant, Missouri resident won $1million when the numbers on his $2 Quick Pick ticket matched the first five numbers – 12 – 26 - 44 - 46 - 47 - (29) - in the Saturday August 2 drawing.
Bryant has lived in the St. Louis area all his life. In May he retired after working for 25 years at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Fenton, Missouri. When that plant closed in 2009, he transferred to the Belvidere, Illinois location where he worked up until his retirement. "When I was in Belvidere, I tried an Illinois Lottery Raffle ticket and I won $1,000. I've been buying my lottery tickets in Illinois ever since."
Married with two children and six grandchildren, Bryant plans to buy a new house and travel with his wife to visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum. "We've never been to New York and we would like to visit the Memorial to pay our respects."
Bryant checked the winning Powerball numbers at the store where he bought his ticket. After discovering he had won $1million, he immediately signed the back of his ticket, then used his phone to take a picture of it and sent the photo to his wife. "At first she didn't believe me and then she was so excited!"
The winning ticket was purchased at Super One Stop, 3301 West Chain of Rocks Road in Granite City. The retailer received $10,000, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. Bryant will receive a check for $700,000, after required withholding.
