#powerball Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and a Million Dollars!

August 20th, 2014

"I can't believe I won a million dollars because we ran out of hamburgers!" Dan Hoffmann said after winning $million when the numbers on his Powerball Quick Pick ticket matched the first five numbers – 24 – 34 - 36 - 57 - 58 - (11) - in the Saturday July 5 drawing.

Hoffmann was hosting a 4th of July BBQ at his Yorkville home when he ran out of food. "A lot more people showed up than we were expecting!" While making a quick trip to his neighborhood Jewel store he decided to buy a $2 Powerball ticket. "I play Powerball once in a while and I always buy Quick Picks."

Several days later Hoffmann checked the winning Powerball numbers on illinoislottery.com. "I was shocked! I couldn't believe it and I don't think I slept at all that night!" His immediate plans for the windfall are to pay off his mortgage and invest.

The winning ticket was purchased at Jewel-Osco, 234 East Veterans Parkway in Yorkville. Today, Illinois Lottery officials presented Hoffmann a ceremonial check for his $1million prize and Jewel a ceremonial check for $10,000, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
