Late in the afternoon on the supposedly "unlucky" Friday the 13th, the lobby of the CT Lottery headquarters located in Rocky Hill slowly filled with twelve excited co-workers from Inline Plastics Corporation of Shelton. The group, who pooled their resources together and played the June 11 Powerball drawing, was undeniably lucky?they won $50,000.
The winning Powerball numbers on June 11 were 14 - 18 - 25 - 33 - 49. One of the "Quick Pick" tickets that the group purchased matched four of the five winning numbers drawn, plus the Powerball number, 23. The Power Play Multiplier® number was 5.
Because the group added the Power Play feature to their ticket for an extra $1, their $10,000 prize was multiplied by five for a total prize win of $50,000. An additional 19,095 winning Powerball tickets were also sold statewide for that date.
Each winner was presented with their share of the $50,000 prize in a check for $4,166 (before taxes) including: Stacey Bailey, Hamden; Brian Fidler, West Haven, Russell Sisco, Bridgeport; Wilfredo Caban, and Douglas Hernandez of Derby; Stephen Soracco, Seymour; Danny Tuozzolo, Fairfield; Vincent Pierson, Guilford; Dumitru Zdralea, Trumbull; Peter Kleftogiannis, Anthony D'Agnone and Mike Holman of Shelton.
The group's winning Powerball ticket, purchased at Howe Avenue Sunoco located at 276 Howe Avenue in Shelton, is a retailer that has also had its share of good luck. Only six months ago, Robert Rich of Shelton purchased a Mega Millions® "Quick Pick" ticket at Howe Avenue Sunoco for the December 10, 2013 drawing and won $1,000,000.
