An Atlanta-area college student has struck gold with a windfall from the Georgia Lottery. Sabrina Yates of Kennesaw matched the first five winning numbers from the Feb. 19 Powerball drawing, winning a $1 million prize.
QuikTrip #0729, 2804 Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
The 22-year-old claimed her prize Feb. 24 at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.
"I didn't know I'd won until my boyfriend looked at the ticket," she said. "I laughed and said that it wasn't real."
For Yates, winning still feels unreal.
"It hasn't sunk in yet in the slightest," she said.
Studying sports management, Yates intends to complete school.
