Edward P. Prakapas of South Boston, MA today claimed a $2 million prize after his Powerball ticket matched the first five numbers selected in the Saturday, December 28th drawing for the multi-state lottery game.
Prakapas jointly purchased the winning Powerball ticket with his long-time friend Daniel E. McCarthy, also of South Boston. The gentlemen each picked three numbers for the six number combination on their winning ticket. The duo arrived together at the Lottery's Braintree headquarters this morning and after taxes received a check for $1.4 million which they will split evenly. Prakapas, who is retired and a married grandfather of five, indicated that he and McCarthy will both be banking their shares of the prize for now, but each plan to financially help out their families and will likely take vacations in the near future.
Prakapas and McCarthy played their winning Powerball ticket at Jimmy's Korner, located at 143 P Street in South Boston. The store will receive a $20,000 commission on the sale.
