#powerball Fort Lee woman wins $1 million Powerball prize

December 30th, 2013

When Maggie Marcelli realized she had matched the first five numbers in the December 14 Powerball drawing, she immediately ran to wake up her husband, David.

"At 3:00 in the morning I was screaming," she said.

But his reaction was a bit more subdued.

"I showed him the ticket and he said, 'Yeah, they match,'" she said. "Then he went back to sleep!"

The ticket won $1 million. It was bought at Raceway, 2058 County Drive in Petersburg, VA. She used Easy Pick and let the computer randomly select the numbers on her ticket.

Her husband David, a Sergeant First Class in the U. S. Army stationed at Fort Lee, is friends with three soldiers who split a $1 million Powerball prize in March.
