The Arizona Lottery announces that the winner of the $1 million Powerball second prize from the drawing on July 20 has come forward. This is the 26th $1 million Powerball second prize winning ticket sold in Arizona.
Barbara Buss, a retired Chandler resident, stopped at the Circle K located at 1995 W. Chandler Blvd. to buy a Big Gulp and two Powerball tickets. Buss checked her ticket the morning of July 25 and to her amazement, found five matching numbers. Thinking she won $100,000, she showed the ticket to her husband who suggested they immediately drive to the Arizona Lottery office to check the ticket.
Buss said she and her husband were shocked to discover they were Arizona's latest $1 million winners. After trying several times, she finally was able to reach her daughter to share the good news. Her daughter's initial response was, "I'm so glad that I'm an only child."
Buss said that she made a list a few years ago of things she would like to do if she ever won the Lottery. She plans to take a vacation, remodel their kitchen and hopefully finish restoring the 1950 Ford convertible that was supposed to be her birthday gift 15 years ago. The couple also plans to donate a portion of the winnings to charities of their choice and meet with their financial advisor regarding how to invest the rest.
