John Opferman of Pittsburgh has been playing the same set of Powerball numbers since the game debuted in Pennsylvania. In mid-May, playing those numbers at the Shop N Save in Castle Shannon brought him a $40,000 win. "I played a little extra that night because the Powerball jackpot was high," John said. "But I made sure to play my regular numbers – and those were the numbers that won." The morning after the drawing, John checked his numbers online at palottery.com. "I saw I had matched the Powerball number… looked further, and saw I had also matched four out of five (numbers)!" John's prize was $40,000 because he had purchased the Power Play option. Without it, his prize would have been $10,000. As family members visited throughout the day, John showed his ticket to each of them. "My nieces and nephews all thought I was kidding – they thought Uncle John was up to his tricks again," he chuckled.
