#powerball Versailles Lottery Player Wins $10,000 On a Free Powerball Ticket

June 6th, 2013

What's better than spending a few dollars for a Missouri Lottery ticket and winning thousands in return? Brandy Lawson of Versailles might say that she can top that, because she recently spent nothing and won a $10,000 Powerball prize.

The 29-year-old achieved that feat by first playing "Powerball/Mega Millions," the Lottery's new crossover Scratchers game that awards up to $100,000 and free Powerball and Mega Millions tickets. Lawson was one of the lucky players to win a free Powerball ticket, which she redeemed at Jiffy Stop, 613 W. Newton St., in Versailles. Her Quick Pick numbers matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball on June 1. The winning numbers were: 22, 28, 33, 53, 59, and the Powerball was 14.

"I was jumping around," Lawson shared, referring to the exciting moment she discovered she'd just won $10,000.

The mother-of-one said since having her 3-month-old daughter, she hasn't thought about much other than changing diapers and taking care of her baby. So, in addition to paying off bills and getting her vehicle fixed, Lawson plans to treat herself and daughter to a shopping trip.

While claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, she teased that before winning the $10,000 Powerball prize, she "wasn't big on Powerball." In fact, she was more of a regular Mega Millions and Scratchers ticket player. However, after her recent windfall, she declared that she'd be playing Powerball more now.

"I already spent about $20 on Powerball tickets since I found out I won," she added.
