#powerball Powerball to North Pole: 3 friends to share $1M prize

May 19th, 2013

Three lucky winners have come forward to claim their $1 million Powerball prize. Kenneth Wilson and Sandford Watson of Macon, and James Scoles of North Pole, Alaska, matched the first five numbers from the March 16 Powerball drawing, winning $1 million.

They claimed their prize Thursday afternoon at the Georgia Lottery's headquarters in Atlanta.

Jet Food Store #0054, 5588 Ga. Highway 57 in Macon, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket.

Wilson, 59, said the longtime friends made a pact several years ago to share large winnings from a lottery.

On the day of the drawing, a fortune cookie tipped Scoles of the group's pending treasure.

"It said, 'You're going to win the lottery,' " explained Scoles, 56.

Wilson watched the televised drawing and notified the others of their win. Scoles flew from Alaska to meet his friends and claim their prize.
