#megamillions $64 Million Jackpot Claimed by Los Angeles Coworkers

July 24th, 2010

SACRAMENTO "“ First they work together and now they've won together"¦big. Two lucky ladies from Southern California who work for an independent telephone company came forward this afternoon to claim a $64 million MEGA Millions jackpot. The pair matched all six numbers on July 16.      Zahra Vasseghi of Agoura Hills and Thu Thao Truong of El Monte have been teaming up to play MEGA Millions and SuperLotto Plus for the past six months. Their strategy is simple "“ play $1 each draw and pay in advance for five draws. Last week that investment paid off handsomely.      The women decided to check their numbers online at work and were immediately stunned. "We thought we were seeing it wrong," they said. And though they had the good sense to remain calm while they were at work and still trying to verify that they had indeed just become millionaires, "we were screaming inside," they added.      The pair plans to keep working for now and hopes to use a portion of their winnings to help family and donate to charity. There was also one other idea "“ "to go to the Bellagio and get a suite!"      Jackpot winners have the opportunity to choose the cash value of the jackpot prize within 60 days of the claim date. The estimated cash option amount for this ticket is $41.7 million. The lucky duo elected to take the cash amount.      Vasseghi and Truong's ticket that successfully matched the winning combination "“ 2, 18, 20, 39, 15, and Mega number 34 "“ was sold at Smoke N' Stuff, which is located at 750 West 7th Street in Los Angeles. The owner of Smoke N' Stuff, will receive a bonus of one half of a percent, which amounts to $320,000.

Counting the duo's winning ticket, there have been 14 MEGA Millions jackpots won in California, including the historic $315 million jackpot won on November 15, 2005, which was the largest California jackpot ever.      MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 41 other states.
