RELEASE DATE: 7/14/2018
The excitement is building! The Mega Millions jackpot is heading towards the exclusive $400 million club, with an estimated jackpot of $375 million ($226.7 million cash) on offer for next Tuesday, July 17. The prize rolled after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 21, 22, 39, 59 and 68, plus the gold Mega Ball 2. If won, Tuesday's jackpot would be the tenth largest prize in the game's history!
Since Mega Millions began in 2002, 22 jackpots have been won in the month of July, including the largest prize ever won on a single Mega Millions ticket – an Indiana family won $536 million on July 8, 2016. That remains the third largest jackpot ever awarded in the game.
Although the jackpot keeps rolling, one ticket sold in Arizona matched the five white balls to win $1 million Friday night. Twenty-four tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball for the game's $10,000 third prize. Two of those are actually worth $20,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier (available in most states for an extra $1 purchase).
There were a total of 1,116,323 winning tickets Friday night at all prize levels. Since the last jackpot was won on May 4, there have been more than 11.2 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 21 worth $1 million or more.
The jackpot was last won in Ohio on May 4, when the ABC XYZ Trust collected $142 million. Two other jackpots have been awarded this year – $451 million on January 5 (in Florida) and $533 million on March 30 (in New Jersey). The latter prize is the fourth largest in the history of Mega Millions.
