#megamillions A $256 million jackpot in time for Independence Day; $4 million won in Florida!

June 29th, 2018

RELEASE DATE: 6/30/2018

The Mega Millions jackpot is providing a little bit of summer fireworks, as the jackpot is building momentum. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday night – the white balls 2, 32, 47, 49 and 68, plus the gold Mega Ball 23 – so an estimated $256 million prize ($154.0 million cash) will be offered on Tuesday, July 3. It's the largest Mega Millions jackpot in more than three months.

Over the years, there have been just three Mega Millions jackpots won in the first days of July before the Independence Day holiday – July 1, 2011 ($107 million in Virginia), July 2, 2004 ($294 million in Massachusetts) and July 3, 2012 ($85 million in New York).

While the jackpot keeps growing, there was one big winner Friday night – a lucky player in Florida matched the five white balls on a ticket that included the optional Megaplier (available in most states). With the 4X Megaplier drawn, the ticket is worth a whopping $4 million. It's the 17th Match 5 winning ticket this year that included the Megaplier, with prizes ranging from $2 million to $5 million.

The June 29 drawing produced a total of 667,733 winning tickets at all prize levels. Since the last jackpot was won on May 4, there have been more than 7.7 million winning tickets at all prize levels, including 17 worth $1 million or more.

The jackpot was last won in Ohio on May 4, when the ABC XYZ Trust collected $142 million. Two other jackpots have been awarded this year – $451 million on January 5 (in Florida) and $533 million on March 30 (in New Jersey). The latter prize is the fourth largest in the history of Mega Millions.
