#megamillions Mega Millions jackpot to $180 million; five Match 5 winners

Friday's estimated Mega Millions jackpot will be $180 million after no ticket matched all six numbers (11, 37, 46, 64 and 68, plus the Mega Ball of 15) in the October 14 draw. The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won in California at $180 million on August 22.

There were five Match 5 winners in Tuesday night's draw, one each in California, Missouri and Washington and two in New York.

It has been almost a year since the Mega Millions game was changed in order to build larger jackpots faster, offer more million-dollar prizes and better overall odds of winning any prize, all while keeping the ticket price unchanged at $1. In that year, there have been 11 jackpot winners and 172 Match 5 second-tier winners through the October 14 drawing. Most of the Match 5 winners have been at the $1 million level; 11 of them won between $2 and $5 million because those tickets included the optional Megaplier purchase for an additional $1.
