The Mega Millions jackpot keeps growing, reaching an estimated $246 million ($159 million cash option) for the next drawing on Tuesday, January 13. It's the game's eighth largest jackpot in the past five years! No ticket matched all six numbers drawn on January 9 – the white balls 37, 49, 50, 56 and 57, plus the Mega Ball of 8. Three tickets matched the first five numbers, one of which, sold in Florida, included the optional Megaplier for a whopping $5 million prize. The other two second prizes won $1 million each, and were sold in Connecticut and West Virginia.
The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won for $326 million in New York on November 4, the eighth largest Mega Millions jackpot in history and the most ever won on a single ticket. All of the larger jackpots have been shared among multiple winning tickets.
Although the jackpot hasn't been won since November 4, more than 30 million other prizes have been won across all prize levels since that time, including 17 second-prizes of $1 million or more. Players purchasing the optional Megaplier (available in most states) for an extra $1 have been generously rewarded, as the 5x Megaplier has come up nine times in the last 19 drawings. When added to a Mega Millions ticket, the Megaplier multiplies all non-jackpot winnings by the factor drawn, from 2x to 5x. More than 3.2 million tickets have won Megaplied prizes since November 4.
