#megamillions $58 million jackpot won in New York

A $58 million jackpot ($38.3 million cash option) was won by a lucky Mega Millions ticket holder in New York on Tuesday, March 24, as a single ticket matched all six numbers – the white balls 2, 23, 32, 45 and 55, plus the Mega Ball of 12. The final jackpot amount was revised slightly from the previous estimate based on actual sales.

Also in Tuesday's drawing, there were three winning tickets matching the first five white balls. One, sold in Florida, included the optional Megaplier, which increased the standard $1 million prize to $2 million after the 2x Megaplier was drawn. Two $1 million winning tickets were sold, one each in Missouri and New York.

This is the third Mega Millions jackpot won so far in 2015. On January 16, Illinois resident Jesus Davila Jr. won $265 million, and on February 27, New Yorker Tammy Pratt won $126 million.

Since the last jackpot was won February 27, more than 8.1 million winning tickets were sold at all prize levels, with five Match 5 winners. Two of those included the optional Megaplier purchase, which resulted in prizes of $5 million and $2 million.
