#megamillions Mega Millions jackpot to $217 million; $2 million won in Texas

The Mega Millions jackpot is heating up along with summer temperatures! No ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – the white balls 7, 18, 24, 55 and 74, plus the Mega Ball 10. As a result, the largest Mega Millions jackpot in almost a year will be offered on Friday, July 14 – an estimated $217 million ($133 million cash)!

One ticket matched the five white balls drawn Tuesday night. Because that ticket, sold in Texas, included the optional Megaplier, it is worth $2 million with the 2X Megaplier drawn.

The Megaplier (available in most states for an additional $1 purchase) has enhanced more than 8.5 million winning tickets since January 1, including four Match 5 tickets. In addition to the $2 million prize won in Texas on Tuesday, a $5 million prize was won in Illinois on April 14, and $3 million prizes were won in New York (May 26) and Texas (June 13).

The jackpot has been rolling since it was last won on April 28, when David Trapp won a $61 million prize in California. Two other jackpots have also been awarded this year – $191 million to Jack Freney, also in California, and $177 million to Texan Eliberto Cantu with a ticket he purchased in Arkansas.

While the jackpot has remained elusive since April 28, there have been more than 26 million prizes won at all levels since that time, including 32 prizes of $1 million or more. Since January 1, more than 68.4 million winning tickets have been sold; 60 of those have been worth $1 million or more.
